Question 1
Your friend asks about the man and the waitress. Reply in Spanish: He explains the situation to her. She asks him for one thing.
Example: Le explica la situación. Ella le pide una cosa.
Notes:
- Le means "to her" and "to him": le explica, le pide.
- To ask for something, use pedir: le pide una cosa. To ask a question, use preguntar: le pregunta su nombre.
Question 2
You visit Lola at the hospital. Ask her in Spanish (use tú): What does the surgeon tell you? Can I buy you a coffee? Can you tell me the surgeon's name?
Example: ¿Qué te dice el cirujano? ¿Puedo comprarte/invitarte a un café? ¿Puedes decirme el nombre del cirujano?
Notes:
- Use te for Lola: te dice, comprarte. Use me for yourself: decirme.
Question 3
Lola asks how you stay in touch with your friends. Answer in Spanish: My friends send me messages. Right now I'm writing to them. I'm sending them photos of my city.
Example: Mis amigos me envían mensajes. Ahora mismo les estoy escribiendo. Les estoy enviando fotos de mi ciudad.
Notes:
- Les is the people who get something. Fotos is the thing: les estoy enviando fotos.
- Enviar and mandar both mean "send": me envían / me mandan mensajes.
Question 4

Notes:
- Llevar takes something away from where you are: voy a llevarlo a la cocina. Traer brings it to where you are: voy a traerte un postre.
- Lo is the plate itself: llevarlo. Te is the person who gets the dessert: traerte.
Question 5
Translate to Spanish: Last night Lola and her husband arrived at the hospital. The surgeon explained the situation to them. Lola gave the surgeon a big hug. He didn't charge them.
Example: Anoche Lola y su marido llegaron al hospital. El cirujano les explicó la situación. Lola le dio un abrazo grande/un gran abrazo al cirujano. Él no les cobró.
Notes:
- Le usually stays even when the person is named: le dio un abrazo al cirujano.
- Use les for "charge them": no les cobró. English has no "to" here, but it's still les.
Question 6
You are the mechanic. Tell the parents in Spanish (use ustedes): No, today you don't have to pay me. But I'm asking you for an important favor. One day a family with a problem is going to ask you for help. Then you have to help that family.
Example: No, hoy no tienen que pagarme. Pero les pido un favor importante. Un día una familia con un problema les va a pedir ayuda. Entonces tienen que ayudar a esa familia.
Notes:
- Les means "you" here, because ustedes is the formal plural: les pido. With friends in Spain you'd say os pido.
- With ustedes, use the same form as ellos: tienen que, van a.
